Who we are:
Green Estate, a Community Interest Company, manage Manor Fields Park on behalf of Sheffield City Council. Green Estate are receiving support and funding from Cycling UK to set up cycling-based initiatives on the park.

What we want to do:
We would like to establish a ‘learn to ride’ group for pre-school age children on Manor Fields Park. The group will provide an opportunity for children to learn to ride bikes, using the equipment provided and under guidance from volunteers who can give the basic instruction required. There will be balance bikes as well as children’s bikes available for use.

The children will be supervised by their parent/guardian during the sessions. They will have a booked slot to engage in the learn-to-ride session, with the option to stay a while longer and play in the park. There will be refreshments available for parents/guardians. The sessions will be based in the area around York House, by the City Road entrance of the park. The sessions will be run once a week on a weekday. The exact day is to be decided but this is likely to be either a Wednesday or a Thursday. The sessions will take place from mid-morning until lunch.

What we are looking for:
Once established, this will be a volunteer-led project. 2 volunteers will be needed to deliver the sessions. We are looking for 3 volunteers, to allow for some flexibility. We are looking for people who are trustworthy, reliable and enthusiastic about engaging pre-school children in learning to rides bikes! You will also need to be organised and a good communicator.

What you will receive:
Volunteers will receive full training and support from Cycling UK in how to deliver the ‘learn to ride sessions’. As a Green Estate Volunteer, you will receive a full volunteer induction into the Green Estate Organisation.

What next?
If this role is of interest to you, please get in touch with Jayne Rotheram, Community Parks Ranger for Green Estate (details below, available Tuesday - Thursday). The next step will be to arrange an informal discussion/interview to discuss your interest and suitability in the role. Successful volunteers will be required to provide a reference and complete the required training and inductions. These sessions will not go ahead until COVID 19 lockdown restrictions are eased. However, we can safely begin preparations for establishing the group during the lockdown.
